PCL Industrial Constructors Inc. is a diversified general industrial construction company servicing the oil and gas, heavy oil, refining, petrochemical, mining, power cogeneration, and pulp and paper industries. They operate a pipe fabrication facility in Nisku.

As part of the MARIOS* consortium led by Alberta Innovates – Technology Futures, semi-automatic and mechanized welding techniques are being introduced.

Status:

AITF has assisted PCL in accessing new welding technologies including multi-process welding machines. As a result, PCL changed their process and purchased new equipment. The improved productivity gained through adoption of the new process has an expected payback of less than one year. Future additional benefits include improved construction scheduling and a reduction in associated cost overruns.
